For the past few weeks, we have all been re-organizing our art studio together. We have sorted all our art materials by colour (picking up the little sequins, beads, and buttons is a great fine-motor activity!) to create a beautiful, accessible space for all of us to use. We wanted to make a space that would support the children in creating beautiful collages. We have been explaining to the children that collage is a way of making pictures that is different from drawing or painting, which they love to do. With collage, you use glue and a variety of materials (mostly from Dollarama!) to express your artistic vision, and it is a difficult skill to learn! We are practicing without glue on mirrors, as well as showing the children how to best use the materials so they can experiment and explore, starting by drawing an outline and filling it in. We have been creating trees, flowers, and birds...hopefully we will see the real thing outside soon!
