Starting Off February With A Surprise Trip To The Valley

Hello Families,

Hope you are enjoying the lovely weather outside.

We began the morning by reading a book called "Badger's Bad Mood". While the story was being read, the word 'forest' was mentioned and one of the children asked the question "What is a forest?". After some suggestions and group discussion on what the children thought it could be, we decided what better way to explore this question than to experience a 'forest' first hand by visiting the Valley.

Prior to the visit, we asked some of the SK children to draw what they thought a forest might be. We will continue to explore the question 'What is a forest?' with the children and re-visit our experiences from our beautiful trip today.

As you can see from the pictures below, there was lots of discoveries and observations made by the children.

Stay tuned!
Ms. Hammond & Ms. Abdulla

We came across a pinecone tree!
We noticed that some pinecones were open and were closed.
We wondered what that could mean?

Ms. Hammond explaining the uphill path as we walked down into the valley. This path becomes hidden once spring and summer come around as the leaves on the trees cover the surrounding area.Try and see if you can find it again when you bring your child to re-visit the valley.

We stopped along the way to observe road signs and talk about what they mean.

Ms. Hammond explaining why cars are not allowed to drive down the road in the winter time.

Curious to know what the children were looking at? (Look below!)

What tiny creatures did the children find under the rocks?

"I'm making a fire...a pretend fire!" A.A.

We found a footprint - can you guess who it belongs to?

What a beautiful day for outdoor adventures!

Ending our day with a quick snack before hometime!
